30th October, 2023\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

A post<\/a> by Raymond Goh last evening, intrigued me as it was unraveled by tomb inscriptions. And then caught up in the moment, inspired me to compose a poem which I am sharing in this blog post.\u00a0 It has been reworked since but remains in essence in the same spirit. It goes like this:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

An Ode to Beauty and Justice\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

The Father<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

Handsome is Mr. Koh,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

brilliant, his path of justice<\/em><\/p>\r\n

but sorrowful\u00a0 his birth,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

for she was gone in a whisper,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

and ‘tho he knew not a mother’s love,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

yet, he remembered her, first,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

when his first born was delivered,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

he named her for his mother.<\/em><\/p>\r\n

A second followed<\/em><\/p>\r\n

both as good as their Papa,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Graced the halls of justice,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

for such was their beauty,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

equaled only,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

to the unparalleled head turner of their dear Papa.<\/em><\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

Ode to Beauty & Brains\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

The Daughters<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

So it came to pass, the daughters turned heads, <\/em><\/p>\r\n

everywhere they went\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Down under, especially where they schooled,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

The younger, turned a beauty competition<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Crowned, and together with her elder sister,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Claimed the prize, that was Melbourne,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Where they, you guessed it continued to turn heads,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

More years passed,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

And suitors came,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

The older, turned the head of one Australian billionaire,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Settled down under,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

The younger, the crowned beauty,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Turned the head of an actor from Hollywood.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Where are you now, Papa’s precious girls?<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Because, we remember, you have never looked as beautiful<\/em><\/p>\r\n

As when you were both on either side of Papa<\/em><\/p>\r\n

With linked arms<\/em><\/p>\r\n

But here ends my ode to beauty and brains,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

That was the family of Koh Choon Hong,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

An ode that lingers, because there is beauty and grace in their story,<\/em><\/p>\r\n

And one last unanswered question, still.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n

Where are you Shu and Tian?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\r\n
