Theresa Teng visited Bukit Brown for the first time this morning (21\/7\/2013) on a Brownie tour and shares her impressions and regret that a place that has so much history\u00a0 has to make way for a highway:<\/em><\/div>\n

For the longest time, I have\u00a0 been wanting to pay a visit and explore Bukit Brown.\u00a0 I have asked a few friends if they were interested in joining me. Most of them just gave me the weird stares and rejection. I don’t blame them. After all, Bukit Brown is a cemetery. But not just any ordinary cemetery. Here lies, many honorable and distinguished pioneers of Singapore. Some names that you might find familiar. Does (Chew) Boon Lay, (Chew) Joo Chiat etc. ring a bell? Bukit Brown is their final resting place. A place that is steeped in history [one of my absolute, most favorite subject!].<\/div>\n

Here’s a link<\/a> to some history on Bukit Brown, a blog written by my new friend, Peter Pak, who is also one of the guides and expert on all things Bukit Brown. But sadly, this place will one day be, just a fiction of memory as the government has decided to redevelop [a big part of it] for a highway<\/a> that will cut right through Bukit Brown.<\/div>\n

We need to leave something for our future generation. A piece of history that can be seen and felt, and not read from text books in schools and libraries. <\/em><\/h1>\n
I thank Peter Pak, Chew Keng Kiat, Fabian Tee\u00a0 and a few others whom I can’t remember their names\u00a0 for the most memorable guided tour of Bukit Brown. I will definitely be coming back for more in the future.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
