Here&#8217;s what I have traced of the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ee Tean Choon<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 family tree.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Grandparents:\u00a0 Ee Swee Hin and Khoo Swee Yee<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ee Swee Hin passed away on the 8<sup>th<\/sup> September 1942 and his wife\u00a0 Khoo Swee Yee,\u00a0 on the 19<sup>th<\/sup> February 1955. They are buried together in Hill 5 Division B with LTA tag #1122 and will be exhumed in March.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-grandparents-Sugen-Ramiah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8561\" alt=\"Ee grandparents (Sugen Ramiah)\" src=\"http:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-grandparents-Sugen-Ramiah.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-grandparents-Sugen-Ramiah.jpg 640w, https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-grandparents-Sugen-Ramiah-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-grandparents-Sugen-Ramiah-280x186.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Father: Ee Yean Keat<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ee Yean Keat was the eldest son of Ee Swee Hin and\u00a0 Khoo Swee Yee. He had two other siblings, Ee Yean Bee and another adopted brother &#8211; Tan Eng Yam. Born in Malacca in the year 1884, he was educated in a high school there and came to Singapore to look for a better future. He married Seow Joo Neo and had seven children. He first started work with Netherlands Trading Society in 1904. After 6 years, in 1910, he worked as a cashier with the KPM shipping company. He wanted an early retirement after 25 years with the shipping company. However, he later joined the Straits Times Press (Malaya) Ltd and officially retired in 1959 at the age of 75. He was also known as the \u201cGrand Old Man\u2019 of the accounts section of Straits Times Press (Malaya). He passed away on the 24<sup>th<\/sup> of September 1968 at the age of 84. The Obituary section in the archives indicates that he left behind 2 wives.\u00a0\u00a0 Seow Joo Neo\u00a0 the mother of Ee Tean Choon,\u00a0 passed away on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of January 1985 at the age of 102. She left behind 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. No information has been uncovered about Ee Yean Keat&#8217;s other wife.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Ee Tean Choon (E Tean Choon on tombstone)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ee Tean Choon\u00a0 born in the year 1910 and was the first born of\u00a0 Ee Yean Keat and\u00a0 Seow Joo Neo of No.350 East Coast Road. He was the eldest of seven children. He married\u00a0 Ruby Chia Boey Neo , the fifth daughter of Mr &amp; Mrs Chia Keng Chin of No.8 Saint Thomas Walk, on the 3rd of October 1936. Chia Boey Neo the grand-daughter of Mr <a href=\"http:\/\/mymindisrojak.blogspot.sg\/2013\/01\/chia-hood-theam-and-family-bukit-brown.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chia Hood Theam<\/a>, was born in July 1914 and was 22 years old when she married Ee. They didn\u2019t have their own children but adopted two babies -Willie Ee Kean Leong and Margaret Ee.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly,\u00a0 Ee Tean Choon died of typhoid, on the 3rd of April 1938, at just\u00a0 28 years old. He left behind a young widow and two infants, barely two years after his marriage. The two infants were then adopted by his brother, Ee Tean Cheng\u00a0\u00a0 and the young widow returned to her\u00a0 parents\u2019 house.<\/p>\n<p>Inscribed on the tomb is an epitaph :<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u2018In the prime of his life death claimed him, In the pride of his manhood days, none knew him but to love him, None mention his name but with praise.\u2019<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-8559\" alt=\"Ee 3 (Sugen Ramiah)\" src=\"http:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah-1024x576.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah-280x157.jpg 280w, https:\/\/bukitbrown.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Ee-3-Sugen-Ramiah.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I believe that the epitaph was taken from\u00a0 \u2018The life of Rev. William James Hall, M. D.:\u00a0 Medical Missionary on the slums of New York, Pioneer Missionary to Pyong Yang, Korea\u2019 1897.\u00a0 It is about how Rev Hall ministered\u00a0 to the sick and wounded of Korea and his martyrdom.\u00a0 Coincidentally, both William (Willie for short) Willie\u00a0 and Margaret, were the names of Dr. Hall\u2019s great grandparents.<\/p>\n<p>Ee Tean Choon is buried in Hill 4 Division C with LTA tag #2612. He has been claimed by the family of his wife, the late Mdm Chia Boey Neo.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Brother : Ee Tean Cheng<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ee Tean Cheng was actively involved in many athletic associations such as the Useful Lads Badminton Party, Horlicks Badminton Party and was elected as vice president of the S.A.S.U (Singapore Armature Sports Union) in 1940. The tournaments, training and meetings were often held in the badminton court of the Ee\u2019s residence at East Coast Road. He worked for Ford Motors and\u00a0 married to Ong Lian Neo Nellie\u00a0 on the 15th December 1940. Unfortunately, she passed away on the 26th October 1941 while in labour, both mother and child didn&#8217;t survive. She was buried in Bukit Brown and Raymond Goh has a blog post on her life\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bukitbrown.org\/post\/44373418881\/trip-truly-rest-in-peace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ee Tean Cheng had a second marriage to\u00a0 Lily Oon Siok Neo. They had a son, Winston Ee Kean Leng and also adopted the late Ee Tean Choon\u2019s children &#8211; Willie and Margaret. He had five grandchildren. He passed away on\u00a0 3rd April 1999, coincidentally\u00a0 the anniversary of his brother, Ee Tean Choon ( 3rd April 1938)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Brother:\u00a0 Ee Tean Chye<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Colonel Ee Tean Chye was the\u00a0 first Commander of the Singapore Air Defence Command and in 1972,\u00a0 the first Chief of Air Force of the Republic of Singapore Air Force. \u00a0 He has three children, Patricia Ee, Laura Ee and Christopher Ee.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Son: Willie Ee Kean Leong<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Willie Ee Kean Leong was the director of Sankyo Seiki Singapore Pte Ltd. He married\u00a0 Lim Eng Hong, eldest daughter of Mr <a href=\"http:\/\/infopedia.nl.sg\/articles\/SIP_645_2005-01-11.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lim Kim San<\/a>, former cabinet minister and first chairman of HDB. They had two children, Ee Kuo Ren and Ee Yuen Ling.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Daughter: Margaret Ee<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Margaret Ee married Mr Richard Png and had two children, Dr Kenneth Png and Keith Png.<\/p>\n<p>Postscript : Unfortunately both grandparents and grandson will be moving house to make way for the new highway. However both grandparents and grandson will be interned in the same block in Choa Chu Kang Columbarium. This is just another story of another ordinary family that has contributed to this country.
